Tertiary Education Scholarships

Supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students undertaking university, TAFE, or vocational training. These scholarships help remove financial and social barriers and support students in succeeding in higher education and professional pathways.

• Technology and learning resource support
• Mentorship and career pathway guidance
• Cultural and well-being support networks
• Internship and employment transition opportunities

Cultural & Leadership Scholarships

 

​Supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to strengthen cultural identity, leadership development, and community connection through culturally grounded programs and experiences.

What Support Is Available:

• Participation in cultural learning programs and camps
• Elders mentoring and leadership development
• Language, cultural arts, and traditional knowledge programs
• Support for cultural events, gatherings, and workshops
• Community leadership training and governance exposure
• Cultural wellbeing and identity strengthening initiatives

Sporting & Creative Arts Scholarships 

​Supports students demonstrating talent and commitment in sport, music, dance, visual arts, or cultural performance by assisting with training, equipment, travel, and participation opportunities.

 

What Support Is Available:

• Sporting or arts training and coaching assistance
• Equipment, uniforms, instruments, or creative materials
• Competition or performance travel support
• Entry fees for competitions, exhibitions, or tournaments
• Mentoring from athletes, artists, or cultural performers
• Personal development and performance pathway planning

Pathways & Transition Scholarships

Supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people transitioning from school into further education, training, or employment. These scholarships provide mentoring, career-readiness support, and practical pathway planning to help students successfully transition to the next stage of their education or workforce journey.

What Support is Available:

• Career readiness and employment preparation programs
• Mentoring and life-skills development
• Training course or certification assistance
• Apprenticeship or traineeship transition support
• Resume, interview, and job application coaching
• Industry exposure, work placements, or internships
• Cultural and well-being support during transition periods

Who Can Apply?

The Mary-Lou Buck Foundation recognises that educational success requires more than academic ability alone. Our scholarships provide practical, cultural, and well-being support to help students remain engaged, confident, and connected throughout their schooling journey.

 

The Mary-Lou Buck Foundation Secondary School Scholarships are available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who demonstrate commitment to education, personal growth, and community connection.

 

Applicants should:

• Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
• Be currently enrolled or intending to enrol in secondary school
• Demonstrate commitment to completing their education
• Show positive community or cultural engagement
• Be willing to participate in mentoring or leadership opportunities where available
